1. Why does it constitute to an
infringement if I play music of an Original CD for
on-hold purpose?
Like VCD or DVD, Music CD is normally
licensed for personal listening (entertainment) pleasure.
Buying an Original CD does not mean that you can do
anything you want with it. According to The Composers and
Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS) proper licensing
arrangement must be in place if you wish to use CD music
for on-hold purpose.
2. What about free music downloaded from
internet? Can't we use it as on hold music?
The Terms and Conditions are the most
important when it comes to any licencing matter. The word
Free alone is simply too vague. Like software licencing,
music licencing comes with a set of binding Terms and
Conditions. Unless the licencing terms cover on hold
application usage, do not assume that having obtained
licenced music means you can do anything with it. Like
anyone else, who would allow their creation to be
exploited without a fee? Even the orginal CD that you
have paid for is narrowly licenced "for personal
listening pleasure only". So, do not assune that free
music download means you can do anythihng you want with
it.
3. What about playing radio on hold? Is it
allowed? Must I pay license?
Playing radio is not just about pulling out the
antenna. Many tend to think that playing radio on hold is free.
But, just as you are required to pay for Radio and TV license
for your home and car, you are required to have a proper radio
license in place for your office. Another thing, apart from the
radio licence is the permmission from the specific broadcast
station (e.g. 98.7 or 95 ) that you tune to. You will need to
ensure that they permit you to use their transmission for
telephony on hold application. Licencing is such a complex
issue that you SHOULD NOT JUST TAKE ANY VERBAL AGREEMENT, and
DEFINITELY NOT FROM ANYONE. People always tend to pick up what
they like to hear and stop there. When things concern licencing
issue, here is a simple advice: "Unless you have read the licencing agreement, always
take what you "hear say" with reservation."
4. Why is my radio reception always
poor?
Many commercial or industrial building
are shielded from radio magnetic signal to prevent
interference to equipment. Also, unlike your house, there
are normally very few windows in these buildings where
radio signal can "sip" in. In addition, most phone system
is located in server room or equipment room. In a room
jam packed with equipments or servers, the strong
electro-magnetic interference generated will distort any
radio signal.. The sad thing is that even if you are
lucky to find a "radio hotspot", it is only a matter of
time when someone would kick your antenna wire. One last
thing, radio signal is rather “tempermental” when it
rains, it will start to buzz due to weaken and distorted
signal.
Ohm!, does not depend on reception.
Whether rain or shine, Ohm! always sound CLEAR
5. Isn't radio music good
enough?
The choice of music and messages should
reflect your corporate touch and presence. What you are
playing right now may not be suitable for your corporate
image. We believe you are playing the radio or CD music
because you either like the pieces or you do not know
what to do about it. But think again, is that the way to
handle your corporate image?
With radio especially,
you are not in control. Do
you think Beatles is good or an oldies will fit? What about
heavy metal or Bryan Adam at the peak of his voice when an
impatient caller is on the line? Sendimental? . . . Are you
suppose to sound that way in business?
On-hold music
should not be just any piece of music. Just as you would choose
different pieces for a late night or a Sunday morning, With
Ohm!, we have done our research to provide a careful selection
of music to calm the most
anxious caller holding on the
line. Our selection
of music has a soothing therapeutic effect on your callers. It will calm them
down in the midst of their busy schedule. Just as anyone
would not mind pausing for a piece music that happens to
fit their mood when they pass by a CD
store.
At Premiersoft, we
really corporate image at its best on the line.
Our music will add an extra satisfying
note to compliment your service
standard. Your
organisation has spent tens or hundreds of thousand on
renovation to put up a good shop front, but how many of
your clients really visit you....and how many times a
year? Are you aware that more businesses are discussed
over the phone than at your door step? Your corporate
image on the line really matters.
6. Can we do an outright purchase for
Ohm!?
One reason why we run Ohm! as a
subscription model is because we handle the music license
for our users. With this arrangement, you do not need to
bear the full cost for music royalty. We combed through a
library of music, to select the most suitable ones for
oh-hold application. The music we provide are full
instrumental production.
Ohm!
is not positioned as an equipment. With Ohm! Subscription,
our language is:
1. Royalty Free
Music
2. Support and Service
Level
3. Repair and Servicing Coverage
incl. Replacement
4 Reliable hardware
5. Auto recovery to preset
volume level when power
resume
6. Access to custom studio
production
We see subscription as a systematic
approach for corporate. Electronic supermarkets are
simply playing trader in the domestic league when they
sell equipment. In time of failure, you will have to send
to the unit to manufacturer and wait for 7 days. Just
imagine, how many callers would have hung up on you when
you have "silence" on hold for 1 week?
We hope you can see the overall value of
Ohm!
Note: If outright purchase is
preferred, we will arrange a buy out for the music
license specially for you. The selling price for a Ohm! unit is
$870. It will comes with only 1 year limited warranty complete
with the music license needed . Subsequent year would be a
carry in repair in case of
failure.
7. What do I
need to provide on my phone system to connect Ohm!
up?
Most phone system can
connect to external music source. The connection is normally
via a head phone connector or RCA connector of some
kind. If you are currently connected to an external
source like CD player or radio, then this connection is ALREADY
in place. You may not need to
take any extra step to hook Ohm!
up
However, if you are currently playing
some default music or default electronic chime (which sound
like door bell music) that comes with your phone system, you
will need to get your phone vendor to provide the
connection to External Music
Source.
Depending on your phone
system, you may need to add in a cards or
gadget. Some phone system
come with External Music Source built
in. Please check with your phone
vendor if you need more details about your phone
system.
Ohm! is normally
connected near or next to the phone system.
Ohm! is
wall mountable to save you
space. If you intend to
locate it else where, please make cabling
provision.
Our subscription term
covers only the Ohm! unit. You need to provide us the
connection to the phone system.
8. Is 30 minutes of music good enough?
Can we request for the music to be changed after some
time?
Yes, 30 minutes of music is definitely
more than sufficient as callers are normally put on hold
for under 2 minutes. It would take pure co-incidence for
a caller to hit same track the next time they are put on
hold as the music is only looped (repeated) 30 minutes
later.
Ohm! features relaxing music that will
not stir your caller's emotion. It is the kind of music
that people will not remember after listening (unless the
caller listen hard, which is not likely to be the case).
You may request for a change of music once a year, but it
is not really necessary.
